Introducing Instructional Technology to a Rural College Campus
Co-Presenter: Robert Logan
Scheduled For: Monday @ 11:00 AM in Water Oaks II
Session Type: Session - Presentation (includes keynote & business mtg)
Target Audience: Anyone interested in increasing the use of technology
Abstract:
In the face of increasing competition from online colleges and universities, as well as increased interest among some faculty to incorporate newer technologies into their teaching, our campus hired an Instructional Technologist to help with faculty needs. However, this does not mean the general campus population has been ready to accept the help or any subsequently recommended changes to the campus technology infrastructure. Security has been the main focus of the technology department for many years and their definition of customer service is very different than what the users prefer. Techniques for breaking through these barriers while still moving the campus forward will be discussed. We will address project plan successes and failures as well as ongoing plans. How we handled situations, worked around roadblocks, and brought constituencies on board will be highlighted. Audience members will get ideas and cautions for introducing technological change.
